What you should know about it

Most characters need concept art (rough ideas) before developing or rendering to final. It is a base stage for world visual development before attempting to put it together. Concept art is used in movies to comics and video games. They are also used for creating environments and anything else that’s not yet tangible in reality. Character design is considered as a job in the industry that works in connecting the dots with others in the art department for productions.

 

A solid character design has key elements that pertain to the reality of which the character lives and how they perceive themselves.

 

A character design in its final stages should show the full design in order to send it to another artist, or even to assist the original artist, to draw or render in comics, games, and animation. A character sheet is an asset for quickly getting to know a character’s design and is used as a reference. It often at times shows different expressions the character makes.

 

 *Assets (items necessary for building or creating, they are frequently recycled/used).

Preparing for Character Design

The main thing artists need to make a character from scratch is an idea. You need simple and direct information about the character for the artists to absorb and work from. This includes ideas about their color palette to their personality. You are describing a made-up individual in simple short terms, and possibly images, to have the character translated by the artists.

 

Your artists should be knowledgeable enough to give feedback on visuals to assist the development in a positive direction.

You should expect PSD. and/or PNG. files, in high quality upon delivery of finals. Quality is best judged by what the original size the file was worked in.

ENVIRONMENT DESIGN

What you should know about it

Environment design should start in the concept stage, several ideas, before developing or rendering to a final. It is a base stage for world visual development before attempting to put it together. Concept art is used in movies to comics and video games. They are also used for creating characters and anything else that’s not yet tangible in reality. Environment design is considered as a job in the industry that works in connecting the dots with others in the art department for productions.

A solid environment design has key elements that pertain to the reality in which the character lives and how they perceive themselves. It shows mood and helps aid in storytelling.

An environment design can be broken down by several elements in a base design depending on what needs to be met later down the line of production. Environments are assets for quick application in comics or for building in video games or animation.

Preparing for Environment Design

Artists will need information that is simple and direct about your idea. This includes ideas about color palette to the atmosphere that engages the visual of what you want to convey. You will also need to outline the needs of the asset for later production use.

ILLUSTRATION

What you should know about it

Making illustrations takes assets if you have the necessary ones, and references to convey your idea most and not just written material. Illustrations are often used for covers, posters, playing cards, and more. Illustrations are made from concept to final render.

Preparing for Illustration

Artists will need information that is simple and direct about your idea. This includes ideas about color palette to the atmosphere that engages the visual of what you want to convey and assets for characters if they are in the work.

Your artists should be knowledgeable enough to give feedback on visuals to assist the development in a positive direction.
